En Garde Valentine!

Screen Shot 2013-02-14 at 7.05.03 AMIf you have ever dropped by to read the HideAHeart blog you are aware that I suffer serious Rhinoceros Principle multiplied by a factor of 1,000 so you will not be surprised by my Valentine story.

In our 19th year of marriage, I saw and fell in love with the film LIKE WATER FOR CHOCOLATE. My husband did not view the movie because he is not a fan of subtitles. I think it was from the book of the same title that I found the recipe for the ‘aphrodisiac brew’ and enthusiastically launched a plan to prepare the potion for his Valentine surprise! Can you say ‘crock pot’? It’s Holiday Season for Hide A Heart

For years my husband has commented to friends when discussing epicurean topics, “I’ve noticed at our house there doesn’t seem to be much between gourmet and sandwiches for dinner,” followed by casting a look in my direction to which I respond, “It’s true!” But after 38+ years of marriage, I have decided to surprise him during holiday sales season this year. The Art of Keeping Love Alive…one heart at a time

The heart has long been used as a symbol to refer to the spiritual, emotional, moral and intellectual core of a human being, and once widely believed to be the seat of the human soul.

Would it be OK to Enrich Your Relationship with Elan and Cachet?

Celebration (click to listen)

In the words of a well known song, “I couldn’t sleep at all last night!” I was trying to think of a Hide A Heart related Valentine’s post and the following kept ‘ramblin’ ’round’ my brain. Instead of getting up and writing my ideas down,  I was kept busy by the effort of trying to ‘memorize’ the list.

As a songwriter, it has been my experience that when I am kept awake by my own thinking there is often some ‘hidden’ value that makes itself clear later, especially when the thoughts, ideas or poetry are easily resurrected the next day! Continue reading

Relationship Boost!

Attention Boomers!

Easy Love Notes

Whether you are in a newly formed relationship or been in a long-lived one, keep in mind every couple can use a little ‘relationship rejuvenation‘ once in a while.

We all get a little ‘lazy’ with this relationship nurturing stuff. I don’t know why…we’re pretty good about it during the ‘fresh bloom’ of love, but as the years pass, there seems to be a tendency to over-look the simple, easy ways to fan the flames to keep the home fires lighted.

Fanning the Flames

Flowers, candy, hugs, kisses on the back of the neck, holding hands, sharing a cup of coffee/tea or glass of wine while watching the sun rise or sun set are good little practices to RE-IMPLEMENT if you have let them go for a while.

Here’s a simple but sweet way to boost your relationship meter to the positive for us boomers. On your next vacation or marriage seminar week-end, tuck a red glass heart in the suitcase- pocket-shaving kit or make-up bag of the traveling companion you LOVE to surprise him/her! Then trade off hiding it for one another during the trip!

Hide and Seek

Hide A Heart is a fun and romantic game that is budget and eco-friendly because you only buy the heart once to create an easy love note to hide again and again to ‘keep the home fires blazing’…well maybe not blazing, but at least lighted!

Be sure to check out Michelle’s cute story about playing Hide A Heart with her husband of twenty-six years.

C’mon, share your suggestions for relationship boosts in the comment area.
